As a Knowledge and Training Technical Writer, you’ll bridge the gap between our complex internal systems and tools and the employees who use them. This dynamic role sits at the intersection of communication and technology, blending technical writing, instructional design, and copyediting skills, offering a unique opportunity to significantly impact the productivity and success of Apple’s global workforce.
In this pivotal role, you’ll ensure employees effectively utilize our internal technologies by providing essential knowledge and resources. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional partners, engineering teams, and leaders to identify training requirements, define documentation objectives, and align deliverables with business and product priorities for supported tools. You’ll delve into the details and craft crystal-clear, engaging documentation, leveraging your expertise in macOS and iOS to make advanced technology accessible and intuitive to understand. - Collaborate on a global team, with product managers, engineers, project managers, and UX/UI designers to understand product features and user workflows, proactively gathering documentation requirements.
- Develop comprehensive documentation and content strategies; design, write, and maintain a wide range of user-facing documentation, including set-up and user guides, how-to articles, troubleshooting guides, UX/UI navigation instructions, FAQs, and help content.
- Draft, author, edit, and publish using our content management system (CMS).
- Leverage data to synthesize content requests and information from various sources into coherent content plans for informed decision-making.
- Simplify complex concepts; translate highly technical information into clear, concise, and engaging plain language for diverse internal audiences.
- Ensure quality and consistency; edit and proofread documentation for accuracy, clarity, grammar, punctuation, and adherence to established style guides and brand voice.
- Manage the documentation lifecycle, owning the process from initial planning and content creation through review, publication, and ongoing maintenance.
- Refine content structure and flow for improved readability and learner engagement.
- Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Journalism, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical work experience.
- 5+ years of professional experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in a highly technical environment with a significant focus on internal-facing tools, enterprise software, complex platforms, or developer documentation.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly grasp new technologies and tools and to distill complicated technical information for general audiences.
- Highly skilled at producing polished, user-centric, and easily digestible documentation.
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and organizational capabilities, with the ability to foster consensus, influence stakeholders, and work effectively with cross-functional teams across engineering, product, design, and IT.
- Adept at managing multiple documentation and training initiatives simultaneously, prioritizing effectively, and adapting to changing needs, often under tight deadlines, while consistently delivering high-quality results in a dynamic environment.
- A meticulous eye for detail—from word choice to sentence structure—and an unwavering commitment to producing high-quality, error-free content that reflects Apple’s standards of excellence.
- Proficiency with documentation tools and content management systems such as Drupal, Markdown, and Git.
- Strong understanding of information architecture principles and how users seek information, ensuring content is easily discoverable and navigable.
- Knowledge of the Apple Style Guide and The Chicago Manual of Style.
- A strong portfolio showcasing relevant technical writing, user guides, how-to articles, and knowledge base content samples.
- Proficiency with Apple’s productivity suite (Pages, Keynote, Numbers) for drafting and content creation.
- Experience managing assignments with project and task management tools such as Wrike, Asana, or Jira.
- Solid knowledge of macOS and iOS operating systems and Apple software, including an understanding of troubleshooting techniques.
- Experience writing for a global audience with an awareness of accessibility considerations.
- A genuine passion for helping people maximize their use of technology and productivity tools.
- Master’s degree, specialized degrees in technical communication, or certifications in technical writing are a plus.
