The Strategic Project Lead (SPL) is the accountable delivery owner for 1–2 high-priority GenAI programs. Each SPL serves as the client-visible owner of project success. They ensure strong execution in fast-moving AI data programs where requirements evolve frequently and customer expectations are high. This is a high-responsibility role within a defined delivery structure. The position carries meaningful ownership and decision authority at the project or program level.
Why This Role Exists:
Frontier GenAI delivery differs from traditional IT Services delivery:
- Requirements change rapidly
- Quality definitions evolve mid-stream
- Customers operate in real time (Slack, multi-vendor forums, live workshops)
- Tradeoffs between quality, throughput, and staffing must be made quickly
- Clients expect a single accountable owner
In this environment, distributed ownership slows decisions. The SPL ensures clarity and speed without disrupting strong operational foundations.
Scope of Ownership:
Each SPL:
- Owns 1–2 strategic projects
- Is the primary delivery contact for the client
- Oversees execution across: Quality Manager, Delivery Operations Lead, Engagement / Community Leads, Workforce HR Ops (Scholars), Analytics support
- Partners with Solutions Architecture for technical and SME design decisions
The Senior TPM provides portfolio-level oversight and escalation support.
Core Responsibilities:
Accountable Delivery Ownership
- Own quality, throughput, and timeline performance
- Maintain a clear, integrated view of project health
- Make day-to-day tradeoffs within defined guardrails using data
- Operate within commercial constraints
Client-Facing Leadership
- Serve as the face of delivery for the project
- Provide contextual explanations of performance shifts
- Translate evolving client requirements into operational plans
Cross-Functional Integration
- Align Quality, Delivery Ops, and Engagement around clear priorities
- Convert ambiguity into structured execution
- Recognize when to consult, when to build consensus, and when to decide
- Ensure issues are addressed before they escalate
Change Navigation
- Lead response to new workflows, guideline updates, and policy changes
- Communicate adjustments clearly and quickly
- Identify operational risks early
What This Role Requires:
This is a high-intensity role in a fast-moving environment. Successful SPLs demonstrate:
- Judgment — sound tradeoffs under pressure
- Decisiveness — clear direction within guardrails
- Grit — steady leadership through change
- Scrappiness — willingness to roll up sleeves when needed
- Risk awareness — flag material issues early
The SPL is the visible owner of the program. Clients experience their leadership directly.
Qualifications:
- 3–5+ years in complex program or project leadership
- Experience in AI/ML data programs
- Strong customer communication skills
- Comfort operating in high-ambiguity environments
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams in matrixed organizations
- Strong quantitative fluency: able to identify which metrics matter, interpret performance shifts, run lightweight statistical analysis, and build and curate spreadsheets and dashboards as decision-making tools
