Microsoft Azure Storage is a highly distributed, massively scalable, and ubiquitously accessible cloud storage platform. To meet the ever-increasing demands of performance and capacity for existing and new Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads, the Azure storage team is building the storage stack that will run on the custom designed Data Processors.
We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer - Azure Storage who is interested in tackling the challenges in developing and deploying next generation storage at Azure scale. As a Principal Software Engineer - Azure Storage, you will have a chance to influence, lead, and work on architecture, design, implementation, and optimizations of DPU storage stack. You will be involved in all phases of the storage lifecycle, design, implementation, test, deployment, and support. Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++
- OR equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of experience in designing and developing storage infrastructure.
- 6+ years of proficiency with storage data path and protocols.
- 6+ years of problem solving and debugging skills.
Other Qualifications:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in embedded programming with Microprocessor without Interlocked Pipeline Stages (MIPS) and Advanced RISC Machine (ARM) processors.
- 3+ years of demonstrated familiarity of storage systems and various bottlenecks for performance.
- 3+ years of experience with Data Processing Units.
Software Engineering IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.

Responsibilities
Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a set of features. Begins to leverage a variety of feedback channels to incorporate insights into future designs or solution fixes. Reviews work items to deepen knowledge of product features in partnership with appropriate stakeholders and executes project plans, release plans, and work items.
Leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
Creates and implements code for a product, service, or feature, reusing code as applicable. Writes and learns to create code that is extensible and maintainable. Considers diagnosability, reliability, and maintainability with few defects, and understands when the code is ready to be shared and delivered. Leads by example and mentors others to produce extensible and maintainable code used across products.
Leverages subject-matter expertise of cross-product features with appropriate stakeholders to drive multiple groups' project plans, release plans, and work items.
Holds accountability as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers across products/solutions, working on-call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and shares knowledge with other engineers.
