Overview

We are the Windows Servicing and Delivery (WSD) organization, and our core mission is to keep customers protected and productive by delivering seamless, timely updates across existing and future versions of Windows. This work involves solving deep technical challenges in the Windows operating system and building mission-critical services and infrastructure that power the delivery of updates and innovations to billions of devices worldwide. Beyond updates, we also empower commercial and enterprise customers with products and solutions to deploy and secure their devices effectively.


We’re looking for a passionate and experienced software development leader to join us as a Principal Group Software Engineer Manager . In this role, you will drive the faster code to customer strategy for Windows, enabling agile, predictable, and high-quality delivery of Windows updates and innovations to customers every month, at massive scale. You’ll lead efforts to enhance the engineering experience, streamline code containment, and evolve release and monitoring infrastructure to support this mission.

As a leader in this position, you will shape technical strategy, drive alignment, and lead the design and development of resilient, scalable software systems, all while mentoring and empowering a diverse, high-performing engineering team. Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience with large scale software services, architecture and technologies.
  • Experience building solutions with Azure technologies (Cosmos DB, Service Fabric, Azure Functions, etc.), and Microsoft Stack (C#, SQL, ASP.NET).
  • Experience in AI/ML technologies, data warehousing and Azure Analytics stack (like Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, etc.).
  • Experience in UX, Angular, JavaScript. React is a plus.
  • Ability and passion to pick up new technologies and stay on the cutting edge of development.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and growing organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience with coaching and mentoring leaders.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating with geographically distributed partner teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of experience in building and shipping production-grade software products.
  • 8-10 years of experience in engineering management.

Responsibilities

  • Model, coach, and care for employees and peers, helping everyone to bring their best self to work and enable their career growth.
  • Develop and execute the strategy and plan for continued improvement in how we deliver ongoing protections and innovations to the billion+ in-market Windows devices, gaining efficiency and building trust.

  • Collaborate with senior executives at Microsoft, leaders from product engineering, security services, and other business units to ensure a shared sense of success.

  • Be responsible for the engineering deliverables impacting billions of Windows customers.

  • Oversees partnership with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements within and across teams for multiple solutions or product lines.

  • Oversee teams and provides technical leadership for identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.

  • Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).

  • Oversee teams and drive multiple groups project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders across products.

  • Leads the resolution of complex site incidents and oversees for Designated Responsible Individuals (DRI) and directs the work of other engineers across product lines.

  • Keeps informed of and communicates new standards to ensure that the product development and scaling to customer requirements and applies best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations and holds accountability for products that do not meet expectations.
